How to develop database locally and post to web host?

Hongju - can you be a little more specific on how to back up and restore the
databases. I have a very similar problem. I created a project that has a
database in APP_DATA. I'm hosting on GoDaddy and I need to take the APP_DAT
A
database (.mdf) and move it to one of their MySQL databases. I have no clue
on how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You will most likely need to modify them some to get them to work.
It's probably a good idea not to generate scripts for everything at
once, but to start with the tables first, then the views, then the SP's
etc etc...

How to determine last "monthversary" date of an account?

I work on a project where advertisers on a classifieds Web site have the
possibility to place a certain number of ads per month.
The difficulty comes from the fact that a month period starts at each
"monthversary", meaning that if somebody created his account on June 15, I
would need to take into account the ads placed since the 15th of this
month...
I am simply trying to see how I can extract, in a very compact way, the last
"monthversary" date knowing the date the account was created and the current
date.
Right now I am using a method that works: I extract the day from the
creation date, prepend the current month and append the year, then:
1- if the "monthversary" is after today's date, go back one month
2- take care of the 30-day months issue and of of February as well (even
leap year)
3- take care of the year changes
And then I have a string that represents the last "monthversary" date, but I
am sure there is a simple, one-liner way to do this.
Thanks a lot!White,
Can you post the DDL and sample data? Sounds like the MAX function may work
here.

Simply put:
If I opened my account on June 15 2005, what function would help me to

Hi White Echo,
Not sure if it's simpler, but you could write it in one line (though I
prefer slightly more formatting - read this emssage with a fixed font
for best effect), and it has the definite advantage that it can be used
in a query to process all rows at once (though my example uses only a
variable):
DECLARE @.StartDate datetime
SET @.StartDate = '20050615'
SELECT DATEADD(month,
DATEDIFF(month,
@.StartDate,
CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
- CASE WHEN DAY(@.StartDate) > DAY(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
THEN 1
ELSE 0
END,
@.StartDate)

How to deploy SQLProject from VS2005

Hello,
According to documentation I'm supposed to be able to deploy SQL project directly from VS2005. I don't have Either Build<project name> under Build menu, neither I have Deploy <project name> for my SQL project.
What am I doing wrong?
To deploy items in a SQL Server project to a SQL Server
1.. Build the project by selecting Build <project name> from the Build menu.
Note
Resolve all build errors prior to deploying.
2.. Select Deploy <project name> from the Build menu.
Note
If you receive a message informing you that the project cannot be deployed, then you may need to manually create the assembly on the server. This error is typically the result of referenced assemblies in your project. For more information on manually deploying your assembly, see the Create Assembly page in the "SQL Books Online."
Right-click the project in Solution Explorer. There's a deploy option there.
Most people will do it via scripts though.

how to deploy SQL Server Database Project w/o Visual Studio.

i need a regex support in SQL 2005 server.

i've downloaded SQL regex support project fromhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/07/02/SQLRegex/default.aspx?loc=en.

but in order to enable regex support i needed to open VS 2005. compile the project and deploy it to SQL server. now i can use Regexp-s in SQL queries.

However this is not elegant way to deploy everytime SQL Database project via Visual Studio to every MS SQL server i want.

my question is : how can i deploy without using Visual Studio?

As long as the assembly is compiled into a DLL, you can use the CREATE ASSEMBLY and then the CREATE FUNCTION commands to install the SQLCLR assembly.

If it isn't compiled, you can download the free .NET Framework 2.0 distribution from Microsoft and use the command line compilers to create the DLL.

This will take a little work and will require learning a few things about SQLCLR code. Are you familiar with any of this?

Don

|||

no, i'm not familiar with CLR. :(

|||

Okay, let's take this a step at a time. Do you have a DLL file for the library you want to use?

Don

|||

i have a dll.

i can create an SQL assembly:

USE [myDB];

EXECsp_configure @.configname='Show Advanced Options', @.configvalue= 1;

RECONFIGUREWITHOVERRIDE;

EXECsp_configure;

CREATEASSEMBLY RegexFROM'C:\Msdn.SqlRegex.dll'WITHPERMISSION_SET=SAFE ;

what is next?

PS: thanks :)

|||

Cool. You're most of the way there. The last step is to use CREATE FUNCTION to create the function you can call from T-SQL. Unlike when you create T-SQL user-defined functions, this time you're going to create a function name linked to a function in the regex assembly. The syntax will be something like this:

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.MyRegExFunc (@.myString nvarchar(4000))
RETURNS nvarchar(4000)
AS EXTERNAL NAME Regex.MyRegExFunc
GO

That's the basic syntax, but you'll have to adjust it for your actual code. A couple of things to note: The name of the function in T-SQL doesn't have to match the name of the function in your assembly. Here I called them both MyRegExFunc, but you can make the T-SQL name any legal name. It's is convenient and easiest to make them the same, however. If you use namespaces in your .NET code, the EXTERNAL NAME might be a bit different. And you have to match the input parameter and return data types, more or less.

Make sense?

Don

|||

thanks alot!!!Yes

i've found the full syntax for creating the functions (just calling the MODIFY in SQL on already imported function from assembly) :

CREATEFUNCTION [dbo].[exportedFunctionName](@.input [nvarchar](max), @.pattern [nvarchar](4000))

RETURNS [bit]WITHEXECUTEASCALLER

AS

EXTERNALNAME [assemblyName].[classInDLL].[functionToExport];

again , thanks alot for helping

How to deploy Reports.

I have a web project and created a setup project for it. And I have to create reports using sql server reporting services. For this I have created an reportserver project and created two reports.

I have to create a setup file to install these reports in a remote machine.

How to do this?

You're in the wrong forum. Moving to SQL Server Reporting Services.|||

Russell Christopher has a blog post in which he gives a sample and outlines the process of using his sample to deploy RDLs via an MSI: http://blogs.msdn.com/bimusings/archive/2006/03/01/541599.aspx

I believe, however, that you may be better served embedding the ReportViewer control and building the reports into your web project. Here are a couple of resources for the ReportViewer control:

using web services to deploy. As long as your account has the rights in RS
to deploy you will be able to do this. Your account does not have to be
admin on the server (if it is then it automatically has deploy rights).
I suggest you look at how RS implement roles.

How to deploy project changes without wiping out cube data?

I have several cubes deployed with several years worth of historical data. Every time that I add a measure item or make any minor change to the cube or project from BI Dev Studio and then deploy it to the server, it wipes out all of my cube data causing me to reprocess all of the cube partitions again. Is there a way to avoid having to do this or a better way to deploy metadata changes to the cubes?

Thanks!

Hello!

I do not understand the difference or any change in behaviour since OLAP Services(7). Since then, every time you make a major structural change to a cube, like adding a new measure, you have been forced to full process the cube and all related dimensions.

Nothing have changed in SSAS2005.

Regards

Thomas Ivarsson

|||Set the properties for your SSAS solution so that the Deployment Mode is "Deploy Changes Only" (This should be the default) and the Processing Option is "Default". If the changes are "minor", a full rebuild will not be required. Adding a new measure will require a complete rebuild of the measure group though.

How to deploy assemblies to SQL Server 2005

I'm investigating the possible problems of transition of my project to
SQL Server 2005.
I'm planning to intensively use the CLR integration as it gives a lot
of benefits.
Here is the problem: to deploy the compiled CLR assembly to SQL Server
I have to put it on the shared location that is visible from the SQL
Server 2005 side, and then run "CREATE ASSEMBLY..." statement.
The question is: In general I won't have such a "shared location" as
the SQL server may be "on the other side of planet", I mean it may not
have access to the shared folders the client may access. My program
will be distributed all over the world, it should work in different
environments, so I cannot rely on the shared location. Is there any
other method to deploy the assembly to SQL Server? This is the only
true problem as far as I can see that stops me from starting the
transition.

of benefits.
This is the only
true problem as far as I can see that stops me from starting the
transition.Please use the SQL Server 2005 newsgroups.

How to deploy asp.net project with sql database?

I finished a web application, it need sql database support.
I made a deploy project and it work perfect to create a visual directory on target machine. But I need create and config the sql server database manually.

My question is how to make a deploy project which can let user input sql user and password, then create sql server database and write down the connection information to web.config file?

I see some Microsoft sample's setup can do that. Any body know how to do?

Thanks.You need to do it manually or buy a 3rd party tool. "InstallShield X" reports to do that.|||Thank you for your answer.
I want to do it manually, but I don't know how to create SQL Database in my code.
I can build an application, after install, I can launch this app, and let user input all information, then I need create db, how I create db in code? use script or API ?
Could you tell me a sample to do that?|||You can use either technique. Personally I prefer to have API control over the actual creation and config of the raw database. So SQLDMO there. For creating the entities within the database then I'd use scripts, esp. easy since you can script them all with a couple of clicks in Enterprise Manager.
The SQLDMO COM code is quite verbose but look out for...

SQLDMO.SQLServer
SQLDMO.Database
SQLDMO.DBFile
SQLDMO.DBLogFile
|||you can also import the script into the codebase, and execute it through the application if you have the sa access rights to do so.

There's many ways to do this.|||I can see pros & cons with both approaches. If you use Install Shield X, I'm sure that also wraps the scripts up as well. I'd prefer to keep the script outside the codebase so it can be maintained without DLLs but whatever floats your database boat.|||I am very help that so many people answer my question. I think I know how to do it now. Thanks a lot.

HOW TO DEPLOY A PROJECT TO REMOTE SERVER(starve for)

hi ,i want to deploy an project(BI) which is been deployed successful on my computer to remote server,the server name is boco-ace.i do not kown how to do?could you give me an solution?if you give an example,i cannot bear to appreciate.

Several ways:

First.
Right click on your project name in the BI Dev Studio select "Properties". Click on "Deployment" node on the left and you will see the name of the server you deploying to. By default it is "localhost" , change it to boco-ace

Second.
Open SQL Management Studio. Right Click on your database name->Script database to->Create ...
Send resulting script to your new server. Make sure you process your database after creating it.

Third.
Run MigrationWizard application and point it to the project files. At some point it will ask you which server you'd like to deploy it to.

I am sure I can come up with some more.. Like Sync , Backup/Restore, ...

thanks.

database's login mode is SQL's security

You should use windows integrated security when connecting to Analysis Server.
