How to determine if stor proc parameter is output or input

I know that you can retrieve whether a parameter is for output buy way
of the "isoutparam" field, but is there anything that tells you whether
a parameter is input/output?

The only true output-only value is the return value. All parameters are
input/output. This is T-SQL, not Ada. :-)

That builder seems to have a bug. :-)

The only "parameter" that should have Direction.IsOutput is the return
value.

How to determine default values of a field during runtime

Hi, i am using the function below (visual basic 6) to determine several
properties of
each field in a recordset (SQL server) and all is working well. My
problem is that I
dont know how to find the default value of a field from the table. Does
anyone have
any code suggestions that would get me the default value
For Each F In rstProgressData.Fields
If F.Type <> adChapter Then
If F.Name <> "upsize_ts" Then
rstDest.AddNew
rstDest!Progress = F.Name
Select Case F.Type
Case adChar, adVarWChar, adVarChar
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "String"
rstDest!ProgressFieldSize = F.DefinedSize
Case adBoolean
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "Boolean"
Case adSmallInt, adUnsignedTinyInt, adInteger
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "Integer"
Case adDecimal, adNumeric
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "Decimal"
Case adDBTimeStamp
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "DateTime"
Case 203
rstDest!ProgressFieldType = "Memo"
End Select
If (F.Attributes And adFldIsNullable) = adFldIsNullable Then
rstDest!ProgressFieldNullable = True
End If
rstDest.Update
End If
End If
Next FThats hard to see where your recordset is based on if you don=B4t send
the query with you, but otherwise the information can be queried
through the INFORMATION_SCHEMA Views:
Select Column_default from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
Where table_name =3D '<SomeTable>'
HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.|||The code has to be generic so that it can deal with any sql statement.
As above for any query I can get the field size, type, name & if its
nullable, I just need to find out what syntax to use to get the default
value e.g F.Type gives me type. F has been defined as an ADODB.Field.sql

How to detect NULL in SQL-table with VB.net ?

Hi,
I want to check with VB.net whether a field in a SQL-table is NULL or not.
This code doesnot work:
If xxx = NULL then
<statements>
End If
I got the error, that NULL is not supported ?
How do I code the check ?
Help is appreciated, Gr.

Hi,

it would beDBNull.Value oryou can also useIsDBNull function (returns boolean based on if the given object has DBNull value)

|||Joteke, thanks a lot for you help,

How to delete row 169441?

MSSQL database table DATE field has corruption. The error message says it is at row 169441. I cannot finish an export, browse to the record or delete it. I got the bad record below by exporting to a text file and this was the last record before it stopped.

This is the bad record. 2nd field is DATE
"0000000004015 ",15955-04-30 103:21:55.207000000,"

This is a good record immediately preceding the bad one.
"0000000004015 ",2006-01-22 00:00:00,"Can you select that row with this where clause?

where date > '1/1/2050'|||No. where date > '1/1/2050' returns 'invalid date data'|||If there is no "key" on this table you could try:

Backup your database

Set RowCount 169440 -- Process only first nnnn rows.
Select * Into #TMP_Table from YourTable
Set RowCount 169441 -- Process only first nnnn rows.
Delete From YourTable -- Should delete all rows copied plus the bad one.
Set RowCount 0 -- Process all rows
Insert Into @.TMP_Table Select * From YourTable -- Copy the rest

This is a big "??". The "Select"s and "Delete"s may not process all rows in the same order, but they probably will. If nothing else works it is worth a try. Just make sure that you can restore from your backup!

OR

You could try some of the undocumented DBCC commands to force the data.

Good luck.|||This is the bad record. 2nd field is DATE

You have commas at the beginning and end of your date? You have three double-quotes delimiting two values? You have trailing spaces after your first field? Is your date a string?

We can't diagnose the problem like this.
Please take the time to post correct data with a complete and careful description if you want correct answers.

How to delete a counter in a field ?

I want to delete a counter using an SQL query (alter, drop...)
What could be the SQL queryI want to delete a counter using an SQL query (alter, drop...)

What could be the SQL query

Are your trying to reset an identity column or to drop it?
Plz specify that clearly...

To reset an identity column use

DBCC CHECKIDENT ('table_name',RESEED,0)|||I want to delete the counter (identity) but keep the column.|||Unfortunately, you can't reset the IDENTITY property in Microsoft SQL because of the way that it is implemented. The only safe way to do this is:ALTER TABLE myTable
ADD COLUMN new_column INT NOT NULL -- set type and NULL-ability to taste
GO
UPDATE myTable
SET new_column = old_column
GO
ALTER TABLE myTable
DROP COLUMN old_column
GO
EXECUTE sp_rename 'mytable.new_colum', 'mytable.old_column'
GO-PatP

How to define multi-valued and composite attribute

Hello All,
I want to implement an address field in a table. But,
this address field is a multi-valued attribute. Also, I want to make it
as a composite field(so that all the info viz, city,st,zip,tel,email
etc can be tied together)
Can anyone tell me how to implement this using T-SQL?I sounds as though you want to store the entire address in a single
table column. You COULD just use a long string, say varchar(255) for
example, but do that and you will never be able to query any of the
individual parts without driving yourself mad in the process. Do you
really want to give up being able to ask for just the addresses in
California? Or just the phone numbers in a specific area code?
The proper way to do this in a database is with multiple columns. One
(two is better) for street address, one for city, one for state, one
for zip, one for phone, one for email. If you need to string them
together that is easy to do when you retrieve them.

How to define field attribute for a numeric field in SQL table?

I need create a field to store tax rate. I need only 2 decimal points. I defined the field as decimal, precision=5 and scale=2. Does it mean that it can hold value from 0.00 to 999.99?Actually, it should be able to hold from -999.99 through 999.99.

Terri|||True... here comes my really problem. My aspx form always does rounding for me while I update the table. If I enter 0.7 it will become 0 in the table. If I enter 2.7 it will become 3 in the table. What is the trick?|||You'll have to show us your code surrounding the SQL command. It's probably in how your data type is set up in your SQLParameter or something along those lines. There's no trick from a SQL perspective -- a command from Query Analyzer would simply look like this:

UPDATE test SET taxRate = '.7' WHERE ID = 10

Terri|||Try Numeric it will make the rounding problem go away in SQL Server, in .NET search MSDN for Strings and Formating in your language. Numeric is bigger than Decimal. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Gift Peddie|||This is how I coded...

First is the class

Namespace BusinessLogicLayer
Public Class Itm
...
Private _PST As Decimal
...
Public Property PST() As Decimal
Get
Return _PST
End Get
Set(ByVal Value As Decimal)
_PST = Value
End Set
End Property
...
...
Public Function Insert() As Boolean
ItmID = Convert.ToInt32(SqlHelper.ExecuteScalar(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings(Web.Global.CfgKeyConnString), "AddItm", CatID, ItmD1, ItmD2, UOM, UPrice, PSTPcnt, GSTPcnt, Note, MasterItem))
Return ItmID > 0
End Function 'Insert
...
End Class
End Namespace

then page load sub...

Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
...
If txtPSTPcnt.Text = "" Then
txtPSTPcnt.Text = "0.07"
End If
...
End Sub

then when the Save button is clicked

Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
...
Itm.PST = CDec(txtPST.Text)
Itm.Insert()
End Sub

Hopefully you have some clue, thx.|||I changed it to numeric and still have the same result.|||Sorry I did not get back to you yesterday, you need code in Custom Numeric Format Strings with using statement from System.globalization. (
@.PST decimal(5,2)
)

I only typed

(
@.PST decimal
)

Anyway I thank anyone participated in the threat.
